Welcome to CASA

CASA of Cherokee County

CASA of Cherokee County trains, empowers, and supports court-appointed community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse and neglect. Our CASAs strive to ensure that every child has a safe, permanent home and the opportunity to succeed. History of the CASA Program in Cherokee County

CASA Volunteer

What does it take to become a CASA volunteer?

Submit the completed Volunteer Application attached. We require four favorable references, clear criminal history, DFCS history and sex offender registry check.

Every volunteer participates in a 40-hour training course.

After successfully completing the training, the volunteer is assigned their first case. A volunteer’s average time commitment to a case is approximately 10 hours per month.

Volunteer advocates are asked to dedicate themselves to a case until it is closed. The average case lasts about 18 months.

Advocates are supervised and supported every step of the way and always have resources readily available.

In the Words of a CASA Volunteer

“Being a CASA affords the opportunity to defend the vulnerable, to be a voice for one who cannot speak for themselves, to be another link in the chain of those fighting for what is in the best interest of the child. I am able to build bonds and relationships with so many people that otherwise I never would have met. Volunteering as a CASA allows me to be part of changing a child’s story. But it also changes my story; it changes me!”

“Being a CASA has given me the ability to change precious children's lives for the better. Kids in the foster system have come from very difficult situations and it is such a privilege to be a voice in helping them find permanency in a healthy environment. I believe every child deserves to be raised in a healthy, happy home. To be loved and cared for — and I get to be a part of making that happen.”

“When I became a CASA volunteer, I found my passion and my calling.”

“Having advocated for 43 children so far… “each one has left footprints on my heart.”
