A time to come together as a community and recommit to protecting our children and strengthening families. You may have noticed blue pinwheels planted throughout our community or people wearing blue. These symbols carry powerful meaning. Blue represents calm, safety, and protection. During April, wearing blue helps raise awareness about preventing child abuse and supporting children and families who have been impacted.
Pinwheels, with their bright colors and playful motion, symbolize the joy and innocence of childhood. They represent hope and the bright futures every child deserves—filled with laughter, safety, and opportunity.
Across the United States, National Child Abuse Prevention Month is led by organizations like Prevent Child Abuse America. Communities, schools, and advocacy groups use blue and pinwheels to spark conversations, encourage prevention efforts, and highlight the importance of creating safe, nurturing environments where children can thrive.
Here in Cherokee County, we are fortunate to be part of a community that shows up for children and families in meaningful ways. Through strong partnerships and shared commitment, local leaders and organizations—including law enforcement, the Juvenile Court, the Cherokee County School District, advocacy and foster care agencies, supervised visitation centers and domestic violence organizations—recently gathered in downtown Canton for the annual pinwheel planting.
This moment serves as a powerful reminder: we are all in this together. Every effort, every partnership, and every conversation helps build a safer, stronger future for our children.
Together, we are building happy, healthy childhoods.
